Arctic Flappers Nippy Dippers – March 12th 2022

This event will encourage you to challenge your limits in a supportive, fun environment, and leave feeling like you can take on the world!

Our first ever event last November was an incredible experience for all involved, and we cannot wait to do it again. Here’s the event edit from that oh so special day to give you a taste of what it’s all about:

(Please note that the water is likely to be much colder in March than it was in November!)

What events can I enter?

There will be 4 different swims at the event. A 50m, 100m, 200m, and 400m to enter as an individual.

Due to the very cold water in March, there won’t be an inflatable race so individuals can focus on getting warm and dry after their swim.

There will also be prizes for the best hat!

All entrants must be 18 or over.

Do I have to be a fast swimmer?

No. This is an inclusive, non-competitive event, and is all about the experience. There will be 50 people in each swim, and you can decide to be up front where the action is, or hang back for a more gentle swim. We won’t be timing you, or announcing who came first.

You can swim any stroke you like, and wear whatever you please! Wetsuits, swimsuits, amazing hats – we welcome all of it! You will need to swim with either a tow float or a brightly coloured hat in order to enter the water.

How cold will the water be?

The water could well be around 5 degrees. While there are no prerequisites for entering this event, there’s no denying that this is cold, and it is advisable that you know what your body does in very cold water before you swim. Do not make this event the first time you hit cold water!

How much is entry?

Entry to the distance swims is £30 per entrant.

What will I get?

As well as a warm glow, a sense of achievement, and some fantastic memories, you will take away a tote bag, event patch, and distance badge. The cost also includes full water safety cover, provided by Lake 32.

Where is it?

The event is to be held at Lake 32, Spratsgate Ln, Cirencester GL7 6DF.

What time do I need to be there?

Registration will open at 10.30am, and close at 12.15pm. The briefing will take place at 12.30pm. The event should end by 3pm. There is a cafe at Lake 32, and there will be stalls selling all things Bluetitty and products from companies we support.

Can I bring someone with me?

What about parking and toilet facilities?

Plenty of free parking is available for participants only. There are toilet facilities on site.

What do I need to bring?

As well as your usual swim kit and things to keep you warm, you will need:

  • A tow float or swim hat
  • Your registration form (that will be emailed to you when you sign up)
  • Swim shoes

Where can I stay?

There are lots of places to stay around the Cotswold Water Park, and it’s such a lovely area that it’s well worth making a weekend of it. Here are links to self catering accommodation, hotels and B&Bs.

Please note that the campsite at Lake 32 is closed for this event.
